AEO GEO Labs: How We Approach AEO, GEO, and SEO

by 6 min read

Short answeraeo geo labs

AEO GEO Labs helps companies get found, quoted and recommended by search engines and AI assistants. We treat SEO, answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization as one system, measure each layer separately with real buyer questions, and only promise what we can show you in the data. This page explains how we think and work.

AEO GEO Labs (aeogeolabs.com) is an answer engine optimization, generative engine optimization and SEO agency. We are a new agency, so this page has no logo wall and no case studies. What it has instead is our method, our measurement, and the lines we won't cross. The thinking behind all of it lives in our GEO vs AEO vs SEO framework, which is the best place to start if you want the long version.

What we believe about search in 2026

We believe search now produces three outcomes, and a company needs all three: a ranking, a quoted answer, and a recommendation. Each one comes from a different layer of work.

Layer The question it answers What we work on
SEO Can engines find and rank your pages? Crawling, indexing, relevance, links, speed
AEO Will an engine quote your page as the answer? Direct answers, definitions, tables, structured data
GEO Will a model name your brand when a buyer asks what to buy? Entity consistency, third-party mentions, accurate facts across the web

The layers depend on each other. As of October 2026, most AI answer engines search the web before they respond, and Google's own guidance on AI features says that pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode through the same indexing and snippet eligibility as regular Search. So we never sell GEO as a replacement for SEO. It is the layer on top.

Full definitions live in our guides to generative engine optimization and answer engine optimization.

How AEO GEO Labs works: the method

Our method is a loop: pick the questions that matter, measure every engine's answers, find the weakest layer, fix it, and measure again. Every engagement follows the same five steps.

  1. Choose the buyer questions. We build a list of questions your buyers actually ask an AI before they buy, such as "best payroll software for a 30-person startup". We favor questions with buying intent over vanity terms.
  2. Measure the baseline. We run those questions through ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Overviews, and record who gets named, linked and described, and how.
  3. Diagnose the layer. If you are missing from rankings and AI answers alike, the problem is SEO. If you rank but a competitor gets quoted, it is AEO. If you get quoted for definitions but never recommended, it is GEO.
  4. Fix the weakest layer first. That might be a robots.txt rule blocking an AI crawler, a money page with no direct answer, or a category where every review site lists your competitors and not you.
  5. Re-measure on a schedule. We rerun the same questions and read the answers, because AI output varies between runs and a single check proves little.

What we measure

We measure what a buyer would see, not what is easy to count. For every tracked question on every engine, we record five things.

  • Mention: whether your brand appears in the answer at all.
  • Link: whether the answer cites or links to your site.
  • Position: where you appear relative to competitors in the answer.
  • Description: how the engine describes you, and whether the facts are right.
  • Share of answer: the percentage of tracked answers that include you, compared with the competitors you choose.

We pair those with the numbers your business already trusts: AI referral traffic and signups in your analytics, and impressions and clicks in Search Console. Mentions that never turn into visits or pipeline are a signal to change questions, not a result to celebrate. What we won't promise

We won't promise outcomes that nobody outside the engines controls. This is the part of the page we would most like you to read before a call.

  • No guaranteed rankings. Google's own advice on hiring an SEO says no one can guarantee a number one ranking, and we agree.
  • No guaranteed AI placement. Nobody outside OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, Perplexity or Microsoft controls what their models say. We can improve the inputs engines rely on and show you the change. We can't sell you a slot.
  • No invented numbers. Every statistic we publish links to its source. If we can't find a solid source, we write without the number.
  • No fake certainty. When the evidence is thin, we say "unclear". For example, as of October 2026 no major engine has confirmed that it uses llms.txt for answers, so we describe it as a low-cost bet, not a ranking factor.
  • No scaled junk content. We don't mass-produce thin pages, and every post on this blog follows the rules above: answer first, sources linked, engine claims dated.

Our view: in a field this young, calibrated honesty is the product. Anyone selling certainty about AI answers is selling a guess.

Frequently asked questions

What is AEO GEO Labs?

AEO GEO Labs is an agency that helps companies appear in search results, get quoted in direct answers, and get recommended by AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot and Google AI Overviews. It works across SEO, answer engine optimization and generative engine optimization as one system, and measures progress by running real buyer questions through each engine on a schedule.

Who is AEO GEO Labs for?

The agency focuses on B2B and SaaS companies whose buyers research options before they buy, increasingly by asking AI assistants which product or provider to choose. Those recommendation questions come from people close to a decision, which makes them commercially valuable.

Does AEO GEO Labs guarantee results in ChatGPT?

No. Nobody outside OpenAI controls what ChatGPT says, and answers vary between runs, users and model versions. The agency improves the inputs engines rely on, such as crawl access, page structure, structured data and third-party mentions, then measures how often and how accurately each engine names the client. Any provider guaranteeing AI placement is making a promise it cannot keep.

How long does the free AI visibility report take?

The free report takes about two days. It runs 50 buyer questions through five AI engines, compares the results against three competitors you choose, and comes with a short written summary of where you stand and what looks most worth fixing. There is no obligation to buy anything afterward, and the findings are yours to use with any team.

If you want to see where your brand stands today, AEO GEO Labs will run the free report or talk it through on a 20-minute call. See our services or book a call.
