A free SEO audit tool checks a page for the problems that stop it ranking: indexing blocks, weak titles and headings, slow loading and broken links. On this site, three free tools cover that ground with no signup: the On-Page SEO Checker, the Page Speed Checker and the Broken Link Checker. Run them in that order.
Each tool audits one page at a time, not a whole site. Use them on your key templates: the homepage, a product or service page, a blog post. For the full method, including how to audit a whole site, read our complete SEO audit guide.
How to run a free SEO audit in three steps
A free SEO audit with these tools takes about five minutes per page. Paste the same URL into each one.
| Step | Tool | What it checks | Fix first if you see |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | On-Page SEO Checker | Indexing, title, description, headings, head tags, links, images, HTTPS, response time | A noindex or a canonical pointing elsewhere |
| 2 | Page Speed Checker | Real-user Core Web Vitals and a Lighthouse lab run | LCP, INP or CLS outside the "good" range in field data |
| 3 | Broken Link Checker | Every link on the page: 4xx, 5xx, redirects, timeouts | Broken internal links |
Step 1: On-page check
The On-Page SEO Checker reads the page the way a crawler does and runs about two dozen checks in five groups: indexing, content, head tags, links and media, and performance and security.
Read the indexing group first. An accidental noindex (often from a staging site, or hidden in an X-Robots-Tag header) or a canonical tag pointing to another URL will keep the page out of Google no matter how good the rest is. Then look at the content group: a title that gets truncated, a missing or duplicate H1, or a word count low enough to flag the page as thin.
Step 2: Speed check
The Page Speed Checker runs Google's PageSpeed Insights and shows two kinds of numbers. Field data comes from real Chrome users over the last 28 days. Lab data comes from one simulated load. Trust the field data when it exists. As of October 2026, Google's Core Web Vitals documentation defines "good" as LCP within 2.5 seconds, INP under 200 milliseconds and CLS under 0.1.
Step 3: Link check
The Broken Link Checker tests every link on the page, up to 150 unique links, and sorts them into broken, redirecting, timed out and "may block bots." Fix broken internal links first, since they are fully in your control. Links labelled "may block bots" (403, 429 or 999 responses) usually work for people, so open them to confirm before removing anything.
What a free SEO audit tool can and cannot tell you
Free page-level tools find problems on the pages you test. They cannot tell you what Google has actually indexed across the whole site, or which pages earn traffic. That data lives in Google Search Console, which is also free and should be the second half of any free SEO audit.
| Question | Page-level tools | Search Console | Site crawler |
|---|---|---|---|
| Is this page indexable? | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Which pages are not indexed, and why? | No | Yes | Partly |
| Is the page fast for real users? | Yes | Yes, by template | No |
| Where are all the broken links? | One page at a time | Partly | Yes |
| Which pages get clicks? | No | Yes | No |
For a full-site crawl, free tiers exist: Screaming Frog's free version crawls up to 500 URLs, according to its pricing page as of October 2026. Our roundup of the best SEO audit tools compares free and paid crawlers.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a truly free SEO audit tool?
Yes. The On-Page SEO Checker, Page Speed Checker and Broken Link Checker on this site are free with no signup, and Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and PageSpeed Insights are free from the search engines themselves. Free crawlers also exist with limits, such as Screaming Frog's 500-URL free version. Together these cover a complete audit of a small site.
Can a free SEO audit tool audit my whole website?
The tools on this page audit one URL at a time, so they suit key templates rather than full sites. Because most SEO problems come from templates, checking one page per template finds most issues. For every URL, use Search Console's Page indexing report alongside a free crawler tier, then return to the page tools to diagnose specific URLs.
What should I fix first after a free SEO audit?
Fix indexing problems first: a noindex tag, a canonical pointing to another URL, or a non-200 status code. These stop a page from appearing in search at all. Next fix broken internal links and missing or duplicate titles and H1s. Speed comes after, unless field data shows Core Web Vitals well outside the good range.
Does a free SEO audit check AI search visibility?
The on-page checks also cover the basics AI search depends on, because answer engines such as ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews generally draw on pages that are crawlable and indexable. They do not test whether AI engines mention your brand. For that, run real buyer questions through each engine and record which sources get cited.
If you want a full audit rather than a page check, AEO GEO Labs runs fixed-fee SEO audits with the AI search layer included. See our services.
