freeOn-Page SEO Checker

The on-page SEO checker that tells you what to fix.

Paste a URL. We read the page the way a crawler does and check two dozen things: indexing, title and description, headings, head tags, links, images and speed. Every problem comes with a fix.

What we check

Five groups, one page.

The checks fall into five groups. Each group gets its own score so you can see at a glance whether the problem is that Google can't index the page, or that it can and the page just doesn't say much.

  1. 1Indexing

HTTP status and redirects, meta robots and X-Robots-Tag, the canonical tag, and hreflang alternates.

  2. 2Content

Title length in pixels, meta description, one H1, heading order, word count and structured data.

  3. 3Head tags

Language, viewport, character set, Open Graph tags for sharing, and a favicon for the search result.

  4. 4Links & media

Internal and external links, nofollow, links with no anchor text, and images missing alt text.

  5. 5Performance & security

HTTPS, server response time, HTML size, compression and mixed content.

Fixing it

The usual suspects.

An accidental noindex. The most expensive one-line mistake in SEO. It often ships from a staging site, or arrives as an X-Robots-Tag header that nobody sees in the page source. If this check fails, fix it before anything else.

A canonical pointing somewhere else. That tells Google another URL is the original, so this one usually drops out of the index. It's correct on true duplicates and wrong almost everywhere else. Use absolute URLs, and only one tag.

Titles that get cut. Google trims by pixel width, so a title full of capital Ms and Ws runs out of room sooner than one in lowercase. Put the words that matter first. Try variations in the SERP Snippet Preview before you ship them.

Images without alt text. Describe what the image shows in a short sentence; leave alt="" on purely decorative ones. The Image SEO Audit goes deeper on file size, format and lazy loading.

AI search

The same basics feed AI answers.

ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews pull from pages that are crawlable and indexable first. A page that's set to noindex, buried behind a wrong canonical, or thin on text is unlikely to be quoted, however good the product behind it.

Clear headings matter more than they used to. AI tools lift passages, and a heading that states the question followed by a direct answer is the easiest thing on a page to lift. Structured data helps them get facts like your name, prices and authorship right. The Structured Data Checker reads it in detail.
