LLM SEO Checker: Test How AI Models See Your Page
Free tool by AEO GEO Labsby the AEO GEO Labs team4 min read
An LLM SEO checker tests whether AI models like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity can read your page and quote it. Two free tools cover it: the What AI Sees checker shows the raw HTML AI crawlers receive, without JavaScript, and the Answer-Ready Checker marks which passages are clear enough to lift into an answer.
Run both on the page you most want cited, usually a product, pricing or comparison page. This is the hands-on companion to our LLM SEO guide.
How to run an LLM SEO check in 3 steps
An LLM SEO check takes about five minutes per page. Work in this order.
- Check what the crawler gets. Paste the URL into the What AI Sees checker. It fetches the page the way GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot do, without running scripts, and shows the text, headings and links in the server's HTML.
- Check whether the content is quotable. Paste the same URL into the Answer-Ready Checker. It reviews the main content for question headings, direct answers under them, lists and tables, specific facts, sources, bylines, dates and FAQs.
- Check the crawler is allowed in. A perfect page still fails if robots.txt or a firewall blocks the bot. OpenAI's crawler documentation says sites that block OAI-SearchBot will not appear in ChatGPT search answers.
How to read the results
The results show which problem you have: AI cannot read the page, or it reads it and finds nothing worth quoting.
| Result | What it means | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| Very little readable text, an empty app shell | The page is drawn by JavaScript after load | Render it on the server or prerender it |
| Title, canonical or JSON-LD missing from raw HTML | A script or tag manager adds them later | Move them into the server response |
| Few question headings | Sections do not match questions people ask | Rewrite key headings as real buyer questions |
| No direct answers under headings | The answer is buried below setup text | Put a 20 to 60 word answer first |
| Few specific facts or sources | Claims are vague: "fast," "affordable" | Add numbers, dates and links to evidence |
| Brand never named | The page says "we" throughout | Name the company in key sentences |
Fix in that order. If the first row applies, nothing below it matters yet, because the crawler never sees the content. Googlebot is the notable exception: Google renders JavaScript, and its AI features documentation says pages need only be indexed and snippet-eligible to appear in AI Overviews. Most other AI crawlers are not documented as rendering scripts as of October 2026.
Our view: an LLM SEO check measures whether you can be cited, not whether you will be. Readiness is the part you fully control, so get it right first.
What an LLM SEO checker cannot tell you
An LLM SEO checker cannot tell you whether ChatGPT or Gemini actually recommends you. That depends on competitors and on what other sites say about you, none of which is in your page's HTML.
To measure actual mentions, ask the engines your buyers' questions and record who gets named. The AI visibility checker guide walks through a manual method and a site-wide score. When you need to track many questions over time, the LLM SEO tools roundup compares paid trackers.
Frequently asked questions
What does an LLM SEO checker test?
An LLM SEO checker tests whether an AI model can read your page and quote it. That covers crawler access in robots.txt and firewalls, whether content is in the raw HTML or only added by JavaScript, and whether the writing has clear question headings, direct answers, specific facts and named sources that make passages easy to cite.
Is an LLM SEO check the same as an SEO audit?
An LLM SEO check overlaps with an SEO audit but is narrower. A classic audit covers rankings, backlinks, speed and indexing across a whole site. An LLM SEO check asks two questions about one page: can AI crawlers read it, and could an AI answer quote it?
Do AI crawlers run JavaScript?
Most AI crawlers do not appear to run JavaScript. As of October 2026, OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity do not document rendering for their crawlers, and published log analyses show them fetching script files without executing them. Googlebot does render JavaScript, though sometimes later. Server-rendered HTML is the version every crawler can read immediately.
How often should I run an LLM SEO check?
Run an LLM SEO check whenever you launch or redesign an important page, change your site's framework, or update CDN and firewall bot settings. A quarterly check on your top ten pages catches most regressions. CDN bot-blocking settings are easy to change by accident and hard to notice, so include them in the check.
