AI Visibility for B2B Services Firms With No Product Page
by the AEO GEO Labs team3 min read
A software company has a product page with a price, a feature list, and a comparison table. An AI engine can read that in one pass. A services firm has a homepage that says "we partner with ambitious companies to drive outcomes," a team page, and a contact form. There is nothing to quote.
That is the core problem for consultancies, agencies, law firms, and anyone else selling expertise. The buyer asks "who should I hire for a SOC 2 audit in Toronto" and the engine names the firms it can describe in a sentence.
Give the engine a sentence to use
Write the sentence yourself. What you do, for whom, where, and the one thing that distinguishes you. "Fractional CFO services for venture-backed SaaS companies between $2M and $20M ARR, US only, with a fixed monthly fee" is quotable. "Strategic finance partners for growing businesses" is not.
Put that sentence in the first paragraph of the homepage, in your Organization schema description, in llms.txt, and in every third-party profile. A model that reads the same sentence in four places tends to trust it.
Build service pages that work like product pages
Each service you sell deserves its own page, and that page should answer the questions a product page answers:
- What exactly is included, as a list, not a paragraph.
- Who it is for, with a concrete size, stage, or industry.
- Who it is not for.
- How engagements are priced: fixed fee, retainer, hourly, or a stated range. If you cannot publish a number, publish the model and a typical range.
- Timeline: how long a typical engagement runs.
- Deliverables: what the client receives at the end.
Firms resist publishing prices because every engagement is different. But "typically $8,000 to $15,000 per month depending on scope" is honest, specific, and far more useful to an engine than silence. In our testing, firms that state a range tend to get named in "how much does X cost" prompts, which are often the ones closest to a purchase.
Add Service and Organization schema
Organization schema with name, address, areas served, and founding date. Service schema for each offering. Person schema for named practitioners if your buyers hire people rather than brands, which is common in law and consulting. Keep every field consistent with the visible page.
Answer the questions buyers actually ask
Services buyers ask process questions before they ask vendor questions: "how long does a SOC 2 audit take," "what does a fractional CMO do in the first 90 days," "do I need a lawyer to file a trademark." These are the prompts where an engine cites expert sources, and the firm it cites is the firm it later names when the buyer asks who to hire.
Write one clear page per question. Lead with the direct answer, then the detail. A firm that says "most SOC 2 Type 1 audits take six to ten weeks once controls are in place" sounds like it has done the work.
Fix the third-party picture
For services, engines lean on Clutch, G2 for agencies, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn, industry directories, and Reddit threads where people ask for recommendations. Check each one. Is the description the same sentence you wrote? Are the services listed the same? Is the location right? A firm described three different ways in three directories reads as three different firms.
Reviews matter here, and they must be real. Ask clients at the end of good engagements. Never buy them. Never write them. An engine that detects a pattern of suspect reviews tends to stop citing the profile entirely.
Name the people
Named authors with short bios stating credentials tend to get cited more than anonymous "team" posts. A practitioner who answers questions on Reddit or LinkedIn under their real name, without pitching, builds a footprint the engine can connect to your firm.
Measure it
List 30 prompts your buyers would type, from "what is X" to "who does X in my city." Run them weekly. Track whether you are named and what was cited. That share of answer number is the one to watch.
First step
Write the one sentence. If three people at your firm would write it three different ways, that is the first thing to fix, before any schema or page work. At AEO GEO Labs this is where every services engagement begins, because every other layer copies that sentence. AEO GEO Labs offers a free llms-txt-generator and schema-markup-generator that will prompt you for the sentence and build the files from it.
